The game’s events occur in a fictitious time and place when Daemons from the dead attack Earth and wreak havoc on humanity. Currently, an energy barrier separates the two worlds, turning the sky blue to gray. You’ll first meet Azura and Galil, two characters with intriguing backstories and personalities. Azura is a fearless young woman who will not hesitate to “slap in the face” anyone who exhibits prejudice. Galil, on the other hand, wants to “have a good time,” so the two of them are still at the center of some of the experience’s more amusing moments.
STUNNING IMPROVEMENT OVER THE ORIGINAL GAME
The visuals in Alliance Alive HD Remastered have improved since the 3DS version. The character designs in Sprite 3D are adorable, harkening back to the adorable sprites used in the best JRPGs of the 1990s. Unfortunately, the background texture has wildly varying visual quality. Numerous old, low-resolution textures imported from the 3DS platform detract from the game’s new, crisper visuals. If you like the portability and aesthetics of the Nintendo Switch, you won’t be disappointed; the Switch edition is visually identical to the PS4 version.
EVEN THE BEST OF THE ORIGINAL STORIES HAVE BEEN REPRINTED
The story of Alliance Alive HD and its remaster has a strong emotional impact on me. The interplay between the characters adds depth to the game’s narrative, which helps it succeed on multiple levels. Compared to OCTOPATH TRAVELER, whose narrative feels disjointed and disconnected, this game far outperforms it. This, combined with other well-designed features, makes it easier for players to become immersed in the content.
PK MECHANICS THAT ARE WELL-KNOWN WHAT IS KNOWN OR ANTICIPATED
The genre’s emphasis on exploration is one obvious example of this. At various points throughout the adventure, players will be required to solve challenges that span the entire scope of the role-playing genre, from simply flipping a switch to devising novel methods of progress. Even if these puzzles aren’t particularly difficult, the fact that if you get stuck on one, you can pay someone a “fee” to help you out is intriguing. Although this design has several disadvantages, it does have one significant advantage: it eliminates any distractions from the story when you don’t want to think too hard.
YOU GET TO CHOOSE WHETHER OR NOT TO FIGHT
Enemies can freely roam the game world and engage in combat if they come within range. However, this design is not well thought out because it does not effectively reduce the frequent random conflict problem. Essentially, the antagonist frequently blends in with the crowd while walking; a tactic used accidentally and on purpose by the scene’s designer. That is why avoiding conflict when it is not desired is so difficult.
STRUGGLE IN A COMPLEX COMBAT SYSTEM
In other words, the Alliance Alive HD Remastered battle system is simple to grasp but surprisingly deep. Using different weapons in combat allows the player to learn and master more powerful new Arts, but at the expense of more SP per attack. The interesting part is that players can freely change their characters’ appearances, not just their weapons, making them more strategic and unique to each player. The character advancement system employs talent points rather than experience points. Your character can level up in a specific area of expertise (Talent) that will be useful in combat with this point.
